SEO – Don’t forget ‘other’ search engines

Google isn’t the only search engine

How many times have you been asked a question, or been having a conversation and suggested to whom you’re talking they should “google it”?

There is no doubt Google have the search market place sown up but you should not focus all your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) efforts on achieving higher google rankings.

Google can lay claim to 70% of all internet searches, and you don’t have to be a mathematician to figure out that nearly 30% of web searches are performed on sites which aren’t Google. Alarm bells “BING BING BING BING…” should be ringing in your head right now! Did you see what I did there? I made a pun using the name of the worlds number two search engine.

Bing, Baidu, Duck Duck, Ask

There are other choices which demand equal SEO effort. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, if your Google is the only one on your radar screen you are missing 30% of your potential site visitors.

I’m still learning about SEO, despite owning various domains for nearly 25 years. My biggest problem has been forgetting the smaller players in the search game. I’m going to try harder and include them all when I get around to honing my SEO skills and home you will too.
